Six Things Escapement Does Differently

Written records, always

A detailed account of every service is provided at collection — not just a price, but a record of what was found and what was done.

Assessment before action

No work starts without the owner seeing and agreeing to what's planned. The assessment is shared first.

Preservation over polishing

Original surfaces and character are factored into every refinishing job. We restore function, not newness, unless the owner specifically asks otherwise.

Realistic turnaround estimates

We give a timeline at intake and hold to it, or inform the owner if something changes before it changes — not after.

Published pricing

Prices for each service are published openly. If a part adds cost, that's discussed and agreed before any sourcing begins.

One technician per piece

Each watch is assigned to a single technician who handles it from intake through to regulation — not passed between multiple hands.

Expertise

A Decade of Movement Work

The technicians at Escapement came to the workshop with years already spent on the bench. The lead technician trained under a Swiss-certified watchmaker and has been working on mechanical movements for over fourteen years. The heritage specialist joined in 2019 with a particular focus on older calibers that require patient research before any disassembly.

This isn't a shop where a general repair technician occasionally opens a watch. Movement work is what the workshop does, and the team structure reflects that.

  • 14+ years in mechanical movement servicing
  • Training under Swiss-certified watchmaker
  • Quartz and mechanical, common and obscure calibers
  • Dedicated specialist for heritage and complication work
  • Case and dial work handled by a separate trained specialist
  • Ultrasonic cleaning of movement components
  • Timing machine regulation across multiple positions
  • Watch-grade lubricants applied to manufacturer specifications
  • Gasket inspection and replacement as required
  • Photography at intake for condition documentation

Tools & Process

The Right Equipment for the Task

Ultrasonic cleaning removes contaminants from movement components far more thoroughly than manual cleaning alone. Timing machines measure rate and amplitude across positions, giving objective data on regulation rather than relying on feel alone.

These aren't advanced extras — they're standard practice at any competent workshop. We use them on every mechanical service as a matter of course.

Communication

A Clear Account from Start to Finish

From the first enquiry through to collection, Escapement works to keep the owner informed at every stage where there's something worth reporting. The assessment notes are shared before work starts. If a part needs to be sourced, that's discussed and priced before ordering. If the timeline shifts, the owner is told promptly.

This isn't an elaborate service model — it's simply how a workshop that respects its clients' property operates.

  • Assessment notes shared before work begins
  • Parts costs approved before sourcing
  • Timeline updates if schedule changes
  • Written work record at collection
  • Appointment-based intake — no queues
Routine Servicing & Cleaning ฿4,250
Case & Dial Refinishing ฿6,970
Complication & Heritage Overhaul ฿11,390

Parts sourced separately — agreed before ordering

Pricing

Published and Agreed in Advance

Prices reflect the labour and standard consumables for each service type. They're listed openly so the owner can consider them before getting in touch. If a particular part adds to the total, that figure is discussed and agreed before anything is ordered.

There are no hidden handling fees or administrative charges. The quoted service price is what appears on the work record at collection.

What Sets Us Apart

Distinctive Features of the Workshop

Stage-by-Stage Documentation

Heritage overhauls are documented stage by stage — not just at the beginning and end. The owner receives a record that reflects the full process: what was found during disassembly, what was refurbished, what was replaced, and why each decision was made.

Appointment-Based Intake

Drop-offs are by appointment rather than a walk-in queue. This means a technician is available at intake to hear what the owner has observed and to record the condition of the piece properly — not in a rush between other customers.

Conservation Approach to Refinishing

Case polishing is discussed at assessment, not assumed. For vintage pieces, the original brushed or polished surfaces may hold more value unaltered. The pre-work assessment covers this specifically so the owner decides — not the workshop.

Honest Scope of Work

If a piece falls outside what the workshop can handle well — perhaps a caliber with no available parts or a complication beyond the current team's experience — that's stated clearly and the owner is pointed elsewhere. Escapement doesn't take on work it can't do properly.
